What Do I Need To Make This Garlic Dill Pickle Recipe?

For this recipe you'll need the following:

  • 6 large cucumbers
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ¾ cup white vinegar
  • ⅛ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoon corse salt
  • 1 tablespoon pickling spice
  • ⅛ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups chopped fresh dill

How Do You Make Dill Pickles From Scratch In Your Refrigerator?

The process for making refrigerator pickles is really easy. You'll be surprised at how simple it is, and how delicious these pickles turn out.

1. Slice cucumbers into spears, place in the jars you will be refrigerating them in. I like to use quart sized, wide mouth jars - but your favorite jar will work. Cut cucumbers to fit into the jars.

2. In a saucepan add water.

3. Pour in vinegar.

4. Add sugar.

5. Sprinkle in salt, pickling spice, and red pepper flakes.

6. Add in fresh minced garlic.

7. Add in chopped fresh dill.

8. Stir together and simmer just until the sugar dissolves.

9. Pour prepared brine into jars, making sure to cover the cucumbers completely.

10. Let sit at room temperature for 2 hours. Transfer to the refrigerator and let sit for 10 days.

As I mentioned before,we commonly call pickled cucumbers, "pickles", don't let that limit your imagination. You can pickle practically anything! A few ideas are

  • asparagus
  • green beans
  • zucchini

  • 12 mini cucumbers or 6 full sized cucumbers
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ¾ cups white vinegar
  • cup sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoon coarse salt
  • 1 tablespoon pickling spice

Instructions

  • Slice cucumbers into spears (4 quarters long ways), place in the jars you will be refrigerating them in. I like to use pint sized, wide mouth jars - but your favorite jar will work. Cut cucumbers to fit into the jars. If using pint sized jars you will be able to fill 3-4 jars.

  • In a saucepan add water.

  • Pour in vinegar.

  • Add sugar.

  • Sprinkle in salt, pickling spice, and red pepper flakes.

  • Add in fresh minced garlic.

  • Add in chopped fresh dill.

  • Stir together and simmer just until the sugar dissolves.
