Aprilia's Analysis Unveils Challenges at Sepang MotoGP Weekend
Aprilia's team boss, Paolo Bonora, has revealed the findings of their in-depth analysis into the challenging Malaysian MotoGP weekend, which he described as one of their most difficult races in 2025. The Italian brand's performance took an unexpected turn at Sepang, with Marco Bezzecchi struggling to 11th place after failing to qualify for Q1.
Despite a strong start to the campaign, winning the Australian Grand Prix and consistently vying for podium positions, Aprilia's progress hit a snag at Sepang. Bonora's data analysis revealed a critical issue: they reached the optimal bike setup too late, which significantly impacted Bezzecchi's performance on Sunday.
Bonora explained, "We arrived at the correct bike setup only on Sunday, which was too late to make a significant impact. Additionally, we realized that our front tire choice was not optimal, as the soft tire would have been a better option."
He added, "However, based on the data we had until Saturday night, the tire choice we made was the best available option. A more detailed analysis in the following days revealed that a different tire strategy could have potentially improved Marco's race position."
Bonora also addressed the nature of the 2025 RS-GP, noting that it requires more time to set up the bike on Fridays at certain circuits. He believes this approach has its advantages, as it allows them to better understand the race pace and score more points, even if they are not the fastest on Fridays.
